Currently available to businesses in British Columbia, Petro-Canada EcoDiesel is a drop-in, premium renewable fuel made with hydrotreated renewable diesel (you might know it as HRD). It’s produced through a refining process called hydrotreating, which upgrades renewable feedstock to diesel-fuel quality. This product offers the same high performance as conventional diesel but reduces greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by up to 84 per cent relative to conventional diesel. The term ‘drop-in’ means it’s directly compatible with existing diesel engines and distribution infrastructure and does not require any new equipment retrofits.
“Canadians and Canadian businesses are looking for ways to reduce their environmental footprint and we want to help them do just that,” says Patrick Ritchie, VP of Petro-Canada. “Introducing Petro-Canada EcoDiesel is an important milestone in our journey to helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals.”
The renewable fuel is a welcome option for our business customers, including the City of Vancouver, who use Petro-Canada EcoDiesel in their fleet of light, medium and heavy-duty diesel vehicles, including construction equipment, fire and rescue equipment, and vehicles used at waste management sites. Evan Dacey, Vancouver’s Head of Fleet Asset Management notes, “It really is the easiest path to emissions reduction without having to put in a bunch of new infrastructure.”
“This exciting step forward aligns with our strategy to provide cleaner energy choices to help our customers move toward a lower carbon future,” adds Patrick.
