Enhanced community air monitoring

We developed an enhanced air monitoring program, Commerce City North Denver (CCND) Air Monitoring, in a coordinated and collaborative manner with existing air monitoring networks in the Commerce City and North Denver communities. Montrose Air Quality Services (Montrose), a third-party team of engineers, scientists, analysts and technicians, runs CCND Air Monitoring and provides our community with easy-to-access air monitoring information from sensors reporting in near real-time, as well as through laboratory analysis and a mobile monitoring van.

The community helped us shape this important program through two public meetings in May 2021 (recordings are available below). At the meetings, community members learned more about air monitoring, provided input on where additional air monitors should be located, and asked experts from Suncor Energy (U.S.A.) Inc. and Montrose questions about the program. We thank those who participated and provided us with helpful feedback and input.

CCND air monitoring basics

Developed in a coordinated and collaborative manner with existing air monitoring networks in the Commerce City and North Denver communities, CCND Air Monitoring will improve transparency and accessibility of community air monitoring information. We recognize the community likely has some questions about air monitoring and all it entails, so here is a quick overview.

What is air monitoring?

Air monitoring is the measurement of ambient air pollution levels in a particular area using various technologies and analysis methods.

Evolving to meet the needs of the community

We will continue engaging with the community to obtain input on the program. Air monitoring locations and technologies may be adjusted over time to enable collection of quality data to meet the communities’ needs. Following an initial evaluation phase, we will continue to support longer-term community air monitoring solutions.

About Montrose

Montrose’s air quality division is one of the largest air quality measurement groups in the world and specializes in not only the measurement of air quality, but also the development and evaluation of emerging technologies for conducting these measurements. With an air quality office in Denver’s Sunnyside neighborhood, Montrose has been selected based upon their extensive experience conducting similar air monitoring programs, including Denver’s “Love My Air.”
